The Property
1 / 4
Now in our 5th generation of Chermayeffs, we continue to enjoy Serge and Barbara’s gathering place in the wilderness. We have chosen to preserve the design as they left it with the inclusion of basic modern amenities. Sharing this place with visitors, students, and design enthusiasts allows us to keep this treasure in our family forever.

With magnificent views of Slough Pond, the house looks west and enjoys Sunsets across the water. The property has 3 bedrooms, each overlooking the pond through a wall of glass windows, 2 bathrooms and a cozy yet spacious living room with cathedral ceilings and fireplace. An open dining area and kitchen with a door to an outside dining and grilling area The enormous deck overlooking the pond has steps down to a lower deck with private swimming, canoes and paddle boards.
Apartment

In 1971, upon retiring from Yale—Serge connected the main house to his studio down a small flight of stairs. The great room is a 28 foot square room with a giant skylight with paintings and floor to ceiling bookshelves reaching up to the ceilings. This great room attaches to a smaller 1 bedroom and bath studio with a full open kitchen onto a deck overlooking the pond. The apartment and great room are offered as a single unit or can be separated from the main house or rented together.
Cottage

Nestled in the woods and only steps away from the main house the cottage has a master bedroom with an ensuite bath, an open living/dining and large deck for outside eating and grilling. Across a breezeway are 2 bedrooms with a shared full bath and laundry room. Making this an ideal house for a family.
A Protected Landscape
The Chermayeff compound is in the middle of the National Seashore which President John F. Kennedy created in 1961. It protects the area from any further development, or expansions on existing homes and enshrines the Cape Cod Modern legacy. The National Seashore encompasses 43,000 acres, extending from Provincetown to Chatham and includes 40 miles of pristine seashore on the Atlantic Ocean. The area is dotted with fresh water kettle ponds which are spring fed and ideal for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding. Each pond has unique characteristics that are fun to explore with the family such as connecting slue ways. Ours, Slough Pond is a great swimming and fishing pond at almost ¼ mile across.
The nearest town of Wellfleet offers shops, restaurants, grocery and a first class fish monger and farmers market. 20 minutes away is Provincetown, settled in 1602 in a picturesque New England down full of galleries, shopping, fine dining, and whale watching boat tours.
